Who we are
The Way Agency is an independent insurance agency based in Owensboro, Kentucky. We serve clients across Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee with personal, commercial, and life and health insurance.
Being independent means we work for you, not one insurance company. We represent 17+ carriers and shop your coverage across all of them to find the best combination of protection and price. Our job is to understand your situation, explain your options in plain language, and help you make a confident decision.
We've been doing this since 1998. Our team has deep experience in home, auto, commercial liability, workers compensation, life insurance, Medicare, and employee benefits. We specialize in serving contractors, trade businesses, professional services firms, and families throughout the tri-state area.
Why choose an independent insurance agent?
If you have ever shopped for insurance, you have probably noticed there are a lot of ways to buy it. You can go directly to a big national brand like GEICO or Progressive, you can work with a captive agent at State Farm or Allstate, or you can work with an independent agent like The Way Agency. These are genuinely different experiences, and the choice matters more than most people realize.
A captive agent works for one insurance company. State Farm agents sell State Farm. Allstate agents sell Allstate. They may be great people who know their products well, but they can only offer what their one carrier provides. If their company's rate is not competitive for your situation, or if their coverage options do not fit your needs, they cannot do anything about it. Your only option is to leave that agent entirely and start the process over somewhere else.
Buying direct from a company like GEICO or Progressive means you handle everything yourself. You go to a website, answer questions, and get a quote. There is no one sitting across from you explaining what each coverage does or helping you think through how much liability protection you actually need. The price might look good on screen, but you may be underinsured without realizing it. And if you need to file a claim, you are calling a 1-800 number and hoping for the best.
An independent agent is different. We are not employees of any insurance company. We are licensed professionals who hold appointments with multiple carriers, and we represent you, the client, not the insurance company. When you ask us for a quote, we shop your coverage across all the carriers we work with and bring back the options that make the most sense for your situation.
How carrier access works
The Way Agency works with 17+ carriers including Travelers, Progressive, Safeco, Chubb, The Hartford, and more. Each of these carriers has different strengths. Some are more competitive for newer homes. Some offer better rates for drivers with a clean record. Some have stronger commercial coverage or more flexible underwriting for contractors. Because we work with all of them, we can match you with the carrier that fits your specific profile rather than forcing you into a one-size-fits-all solution.
When we quote your insurance, we are comparing real rates from real carriers. We see the same prices you would see if you went to each company individually, but we can pull them all at once and present them side by side. This saves you hours of time and gives you a much clearer picture of what your options actually are.
Here is something many people do not realize: the cost is the same whether you buy through us or go direct. Insurance premiums are set by the carrier and filed with the state. An independent agent does not add a markup. You pay the same premium either way. The difference is that with us, someone is doing the comparison work for you, explaining the trade-offs, and making sure you are not leaving money on the table or gaps in your coverage.
Better coverage, better pricing
Going direct to one company means you get one quote. That quote might be great, or it might be hundreds of dollars more than what another carrier would charge for the same coverage. You have no way to know unless you spend hours getting quotes from five or six other companies on your own.
With an independent agent, one phone call or email gets you multiple quotes. We do the legwork. We also know which carriers to check first based on your situation, which speeds up the process even further. Clients regularly save money simply because we have access to carriers they never would have found on their own.
But it is not just about price. Coverage quality matters. Some carriers include broader water damage protection. Some have better claim service reputations. Some offer endorsements that others do not. We know these differences because we work with these carriers every day, and we steer you toward the combination that actually protects you, not just the one with the lowest number on the page.
The advantages that matter most
Multiple quotes from one call. Instead of filling out forms on five different websites, you give us your information once and we come back with options from several carriers. Same effort for you, far better results.
Advocacy during claims. When you file a claim through an independent agent, you have someone in your corner. We know the process, we know the carrier's expectations, and we help make sure your claim is handled fairly. If something is not going right, we can escalate it through our direct relationships with the company.
Annual reviews. Insurance is not something you should set and forget. Your life changes, your property values change, and carrier rates shift every year. We proactively review your policies at renewal to make sure your coverage still fits and your price is still competitive. If it is not, we re-shop it.
A local relationship. We live and work in Kentucky. You can call our office and talk to a real person who knows your name, your history, and your policies. When something goes wrong, that relationship matters more than any app or chatbot.
Choosing an independent insurance agent is not about paying more or less. It is about having someone who genuinely works for you, who has the tools and access to find the right coverage, and who stays with you long after the policy is signed. That is what The Way Agency has been doing since 1998, and it is what we will keep doing for every client we serve.

Coverage in Action
Insurance works best when you see it do its job. Here are a few real situations where having the right coverage and the right agent made all the difference. Details have been changed to protect our clients' privacy, but the outcomes are real.
A tornado, a roof, and a fight worth having
A Kentucky homeowner came to us after a spring tornado tore through their neighborhood and ripped shingles off half the roof. They had filed a claim with their carrier, but the initial adjuster assessment came back low. The estimate covered a patch job, not the full replacement the roof clearly needed.
Our team got involved immediately. We reviewed the adjuster's report, documented the full extent of the damage with photos and contractor estimates, and pushed back through the carrier's internal review process. We requested a second inspection, which we attended alongside the homeowner. The re-inspection confirmed what we already knew: the roof needed full replacement, not a band-aid.
The carrier approved the full replacement. The homeowner did not pay a dime beyond their deductible. Without an agent advocating on their behalf, they likely would have accepted the first lowball estimate and been left with a roof that would fail again in the next storm. This is exactly why having someone in your corner matters during a claim.
The contractor who did not know what he was missing
A small electrical contractor in western Kentucky came to us for a routine quote. He had been with the same carrier for years and thought his coverage was fine. When we reviewed his existing policies, we found significant gaps. His general liability limits were too low for the commercial contracts he was bidding on, he had no inland marine coverage for his tools and equipment, and his workers compensation policy had classification errors that could have triggered an audit penalty.
We restructured his entire program. We moved his general liability to a carrier with better contractor appetite and higher available limits. We added an inland marine policy that covered his tools both on the job site and in transit. We corrected his workers comp classifications and found a carrier whose rates were more competitive for his specific trade.
The total premium was actually lower than what he had been paying, and his coverage was dramatically better. More importantly, he was now properly insured for the work he was actually doing. If a claim had come in under his old policy, the gaps we found could have left him personally liable for hundreds of thousands of dollars. He told us later that he had no idea how exposed he had been.
The family that saved by bundling smarter
A young family in the Louisville area had their home insurance with one company and their two auto policies with another. They were paying a combined premium that seemed normal to them because they had never compared. When they came to us for a second opinion, we ran their information across several of our carriers.
By bundling their home and auto with a single carrier that offered a strong multi-policy discount, we cut their total annual premium by over 20 percent. But the savings were only part of the story. The new carrier also offered broader coverage on their home policy, including better water backup protection and a higher replacement cost estimate that more accurately reflected what it would cost to rebuild in today's market.
The family had been underinsured on their home without knowing it. Their previous policy had a replacement cost limit that was set when they bought the house five years earlier and had never been updated. We corrected that, improved their liability limits, and still saved them money. That is what happens when you have an agent who shops the full market and pays attention to the details, not just the price.
